Faith-fueled.
Purpose-raised.
Ranch-tested.

At Gratny Livestock, we don’t just raise animals — we raise them with intention, grit, and the kind of values you can’t fake.

Our livestock is bred and trained for a reason: to work hard, hold up in real conditions, and bring value to the folks who rely on them. Whether it’s a sure-footed ranch horse, a sharp-eyed Kelpie, a rodeo-ready bull, or rare Urial sheep — every animal here has a job, a purpose, and a story behind it.

We’re proud to offer livestock for sale that’s not only bred right but raised right — with patience, partnership, and a whole lot of heart.

Because here at Gratny Livestock, we believe the stock you buy should be more than name on a paper. It should be ready to go to work.

Horses

Starting At: $1,750 Per Month

At Gratny Livestock, we believe that everything means something. Our non-verbals are a more genuine indicator of true intentions and character than words can ever be. The ideal relationship between a person and a horse mirrors the relationship between God and His people. God, our authority, offers us free will. When we stray from His plan for our lives, He offers fair, direct and consistent correction to restore our relationship with Him. Your horse receives the same leadership model here. It’s given the choice to choose relationship or live for itself. The best part: You’re invited to participate in your horse’s training experience. That way, when your horse goes home, you both understand what a healthy and respectful relationship can look like.

Rodeo Cattle

Genetics cultivated over the last 30 years that stand the test of time from amateur rodeos and Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) to the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) and National Finals Rodeo (NFR), you can learn more about rodeo – America’s oldest sport – invest in an animal, travel with us to futurity competitions or participate in bucking night (every Thursday from mid-April to the first week of October).

Working Stock Dogs

Our dogs – predominantly Australian Kelpie infused with a little Border Collie and Pit Bull – are extremely intelligent, intensely loyal and devoted to duty. Their eagerness and unlimited energy make them a joy to gather sheep and rodeo cattle with. Be a part of their training or witness them bringing a herd of rodeo cattle down the gravel road.

Exotic Sheep

Have you ever seen a sheep jump? These incredibly athletic and hardy sheep, some of which are derived from an Afghan Urial, manage our pastures by grazing what the horses and cattle won’t eat. They shed their hair (rather than having to be sheered) in the summer and lamb in early spring. They’re part of our working stock dog training program and the rams are sold to game ranches.

Hens & Roosters

Wandering around the ranch is where you’ll find our Buff Brahmas. Their docile, gentle and quiet temperament makes them an ideal breed around children. They’re a large breed with feathers that cover their feet and shanks, keeping them warm during subzero Iowa winter temperatures.

Reviews

I appreciate that Dusten trains the horse and teaches the rider. Learning to effectively and peacefully communicate with the horse I bought from him
and the horse I sent to him for fine tuning was paramount to my horsemanship.
I recommend Dusten to anyone!

-Kevin Lange

As a new horse owner and beginning rider, I was seeking a trainer who could teach me how to build a relationship with my horse. I learned that every interaction means something and that it’s not about me. It’s about what’s in my horse’s best interest. I discovered how to be firm and fair while communicating in a way that builds trust. The
horsemanship journey has been fun and rewarding thanks to Dusten’s approach resulting from decades of experience.
